PEDAL -> Portobello Transition Town

Solar water heat­ing can provide up to 70% of the hot water you use each year, depend­ing on the dir­ec­tion your roof faces and type of heat­ing sys­tem you cur­rently use.

PEDAL will soon be offer­ing Portobello res­id­ents reduced price solar hot water pan­els. The scheme will use approved products and accred­ited installers.

We are look­ing to agree a “bulk pur­chase” price with installers so that house­holds in Portobello can bene­fit from a reduced cost one-off install­a­tion price. This idea has already been trialed suc­cess­fully by the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre and Fife Council for around 40 homes in Fife.

The installer will need to carry out a sur­vey of your house to assess its suit­ab­il­ity for solar hot water pan­els, and con­firm the over­all costs. Installation arrange­ments will be between the installer and house­holder, and may be sub­ject to plan­ning per­mis­sion and a build­ing warrant.

We already have lots of inter­ested Portobello res­id­ents signed up – the next step is to find out what install­a­tion prices we might be able to get.
