The next orchard work day will take place on Saturday 12th June, from 10 am — 2 pm. Everyone is welcome!
The next Orchard Group meeting will take place on Wednesday 17th June at 7.30 pm in the Dalriada.

Hope to see at some of these events. Please make sure to bring something to eat and drink and wear appropriate clothing, especially now the nettles have sprung up again. Even better, bring some thick gloves and a bag to collect some for soup!

The bees need you and we need the bees! Bees are important pollinators and honey producers; their numbers are declining. As part of the orchard project PEDAL are considering keeping bee hives in the orchard. It would need a committed group with,or to train to get, the skills to set up and look after the hives through the year.It could be a fascinating and rewarding way to spend some time.

The next workday at the Donkey Field Community Orchard will be on Sunday November 29th, 11am — 3pm. The orchard is really starting to take shape now — BTCV have made a wonderful path, which, when finished, will give wheelchair access to the site. Come along on Nov 29th and have a look!
At last, here we have it! A genuine photo of Dingle, the donkey who used to live in the field which is now the community orchard. This must have been taken around 1968. Also in the photo is my brother Duncan (the one in the foreground, ha, ha).
Sorry Dingle isn’t actually facing the camera — he certainly wasn’t shy. He would chase any wee boys foolish enough to go into the field, and he once took a bite out of my cousin’s best jacket!

Edinburgh Community Gardening Activists & PEDAL have teamed up to turn a large neglected garden area at the back of Porty Town Hall into a community growing space — Food ‘n’ Flowers! If you would like the opportunity to have a bash at growing a few veggies, or even just help out, please get in touch for more details!

Over 80 folk came to the Midsummer celebration at the orchard site (Brunstane Road South, just opposite Brunstane Station) on Saturday 20 June.
People brought food and drink and good humour, and some brought musical instruments (thank you Jicca, Misha and Ian!).
We had lovely weather and the children have created their own climbing and leaping place, leaving the rest of us free to chat and have a relaxing time.

The first workday at Donkey Field Orchard was productive and fun! Three trees and four fruit bushes planted. This is just the beginning- the next workday is the 10th of May, everyone welcome to lend a hand.
